When we first brought the SNOO into our home, I had high hopes. For the first couple of weeks, it really delivered. The gentle motion, the white noise, the promise of safe sleep... everything felt like it was working. But then our baby decided that back sleeping was no longer their style, and just like that, the SNOO lost its magic. At that point, it turned into a very stylish, very expensive bassinet.

Visually, the SNOO fits right into any modern home. It’s sleek, minimalist, and manages to avoid the usual overly-cutesy baby aesthetic. And yes, when it worked, it truly did help settle our fussy newborn, so long as hunger or discomfort weren’t in play. As a first-time parent constantly worrying about every what-if scenario, knowing the SNOO was keeping our baby safely on their back offered a real sense of relief. That peace of mind, however, only lasted as long as our baby was willing to cooperate.

The app is clean and simple to use, and I appreciated how quick it was to set everything up right out of the box. Unboxing was a pleasant experience. Everything felt thoughtfully packed and intuitive. I did run into a small hiccup getting the app to detect the unit, but after a couple of minutes of fiddling, that was resolved.

The main downside? The price. Dropping SO MUCH MONEY on a product that only really works for a few months is tough to justify. Unless, of course, you happen to stumble on a major sale after your purchase - like I did. Finding out three weeks later that the price had dropped hundreds of dollars during their anniversary promotion stung a little.

And while the motion settings were usually fine, level 3 crossed a line for me. It felt too aggressive, watching the bassinet shake at that intensity made me uncomfortable. I get that it’s engineered by professionals, but still. I manually dialed it back down both times it hit that level, and thankfully, the lower motion was enough to settle our baby.

One of the other frustrations was the accessories. For a bassinet at this price point, it felt stingy to include only one sheet and a few swaddles. Considering you can’t use the device unless the baby is in the proper sleep sack, you’re out of luck during spit-up or blowout emergencies unless you buy backups. Which, of course, aren’t cheap. It’s a small thing, but after the initial splurge, it adds up quickly.

And that issue of the back-only sleep positioning? That’s where things really fell apart for us. Just two weeks in, our baby started showing a strong preference for side sleeping. He didn’t roll yet, just liked to sleep in that curled-up position, and he absolutely refused to be strapped into the SNOO anymore. The irony wasn’t lost on me. All that money for something that stopped working within a month.

Still, for some families, it’s a game-changer. My sister lives in Cooperstown and had a completely different experience. She was committed to a minimalist, natural approach... until her daughter arrived and turned everything upside down. After a few weeks of 90-minute sleep stretches, the exhaustion hit a dangerous level. With a long commute and a high-responsibility job, she started worrying about falling asleep at the wheel or making a mistake at work. In desperation, she bought the SNOO during a sale, figuring the return policy gave her an easy out. Seven days after starting, her daughter slept through the night. By the time she returned to work, the baby was consistently sleeping up to 11 hours and transitioned to a crib without fuss after using the weaning feature.

So yes, this product can be magical, but only if your baby responds well to it. In our case, it was a brief honeymoon followed by early retirement. If you’ve got the budget to take a chance, it might just change your nights. If not, it’s an awfully expensive gamble. Personally, I’d love to see a few improvements: a way to keep the white noise going even when the baby’s out for a quick feed, and a phone notification when the device starts or stops soothing. Small things, but they’d make a real difference.
