ABOUT ME:
I’ve always loved a good brand name bag, so this one immediately caught my eye. I wanted something I could use for travel, work, and school, and honestly, I didn’t expect it to hold quite as much as it does. I’m one of those people who always ends up carrying half my life with me, so having something roomy that still looks stylish felt like a win before I even loaded it up.
CAPACITY:
The size turned out to be fantastic for me. The back wall has a padded, lined zip compartment and my 12.9 inch iPad Pro slid in perfectly. I didn’t have to wiggle it or force it, it just went right in. The main compartment is deeper than it looks and it has a few extra pockets that help keep things from floating around. There are three exterior zip compartments too. The front one has these built-in pockets I thought were going to be great, but during airport security I realized they kind of got in my way. I kept wishing those little pockets had zippers so they’d stay closed and out of the way when I needed fast access. Even so, this backpack handled a whole one-day trip without any drama.
STORAGE:
I’ve packed it with a 13 inch MacBook Air in its padded sleeve, plus the backpack’s own padded electronics section. I’ve also put my 10.9 iPad, a composition notebook, a whole pouch of chargers and cables and extra tech bits, my lip gloss and bandage pouch, my small hygiene pouch, and even my AirPods Max in their case. There was still room in the main compartment, I just didn’t want to turn it into a never ending list. The front compartment has space for cards if you want to skip carrying a wallet. I stuck my wallet in there and still had tons of room. The little top zipper holds things like my Hello Kitty compact mirror, chapstick, keys, tiny things like that. The side pockets surprised me since they held more than I expected. I added a portable fan, a glass nail file, AirPods Pro, a pen, and a small perfume bottle.
TRAVEL:
The back has that suitcase-handle sleeve, which is honestly a lifesaver when you’re running through airports with too much stuff on your shoulders. The material is mostly nylon with some PU leather accents. The nylon is super easy to clean. I literally wiped off dirt with soapy water one day and it looked brand new again. The whole thing is fully lined and surprisingly lightweight for everything it holds. The hardware is really nice too, so it keeps that stylish look without feeling fussy.
COMFORT:
The backpack has a flat base that lets it stand upright on its own, which I really love. PERSONAL BACKSTORY:
After almost two years of pushing it, the free Enfamil diaper bag we got from the hospital finally gave up on me. The zipper stopped working and it was honestly too small for our everyday needs. I picked this one up after reading a very detailed blog review where someone actually tested it in real life. They smashed crackers inside it, left puree on the fabric overnight, checked bottle temperatures, all the stuff moms really do. FIRST IMPRESSION:
I wanted the black one but only the navy was available with Prime when I ordered, so I settled. I have to say though, the navy looks so much better in person than it does online. DAILY NEEDS:
I wish I had brought this backpack into my life a lot sooner. By the time I finally bought it, we were getting ready to welcome our third baby, and juggling a preschooler, a toddler, and a newborn on the way meant I couldn’t deal with that old one shoulder diaper bag anymore. I needed something roomy enough for everyone’s things and still easy to haul all over town. This backpack turned out to be exactly that. It feels like every single item we carry has its own little home now, even my personal stuff has its own front pocket that is easy to reach when I am trying to get out the door.
CLEANING:
I saw a lot of comments about the lighter ivory section of this bag and I was a little nervous about it too. Now that I have used it for several months, I can say the fabric is surprisingly easy to clean. MY EXPECTATIONS:
I went into this one really wanting it to be the diaper bag that checked every box for me. At this point I have gone through so many bags that I feel like I practically have a degree in diaper bag testing. I had high hopes because the size looked right and the layout seemed promising.
WHAT I LIKED:
The nice thing about this bag is that everything really does have a spot. There are plenty of compartments inside so I could separate baby things from my own things without everything turning into a pile at the bottom. Even though it is compact, it somehow manages to hold quite a bit which I always appreciate. It also looks clean and put together which honestly helps me feel a little more put together myself, especially on days when everything else around me is a total mess.
STRAP:
The part that really disappointed me was the backpack straps. They looked adorable but they kept sliding off my shoulders while I would walk around. I tried adjusting them over and over and it still kept happening. The material is smooth and the angle where they connect to the bag makes them slip even more. I felt like I was constantly shrugging my shoulders to keep the thing in place.
BOTTLE POCKET:
The outside bottle pockets were another frustration point for me. I use the Phillips Avent eight ounce bottles and they would not stay put. Any time I bent down or moved too quickly the bottles would slide right out which kind of defeats the purpose of having outside bottle pockets in the first place.
MATERIAL:
I also noticed some little kinks in the straps which I might have ignored if everything else worked better. Between the slipping straps and the bottle pockets, the material quirks just added up to feeling like the bag was not quite delivering what I needed.
MY COUSIN’S EXPERIENCE:
My cousin in New Hampshire had almost the opposite experience from me which honestly surprised me. She has been hunting for a smaller diaper bag that still feels stylish and she uses this one all the time. She loves that it looks more like a little crossbody than a diaper bag and she told me the vegan leather feels soft and wipes clean easily. She fits diapers, a small snack, wipes, her phone, her keys, and even the slim changing pad without it looking overstuffed. She said the size works perfectly for her quick drop offs or errands around town and she likes that it transitions easily into a regular purse when she does not need baby gear. 6. BUNSO Baby - Water Resistant Bag with Pouch
PERSONAL BACKSTORY:
I ended up looking at this diaper backpack for the same reason so many other parents do, I really wanted a Dagne Dover but could not get past that price tag. I kept seeing people call this one a dupe so I finally ordered it to compare them myself. I actually have this bag and a similar Dagne Dover now, so I’ve been able to look at both side by side in real life.
COLOR OPTIONS:
When I first came across this bag it only came in green and pink, while the Dagne Dover had black, grey, navy, green, and pink. By the time I placed my order the Bunso Baby bag added grey, although it cost a little more. Meanwhile the Dagne Dover added red and tan as seasonal colors. When I bought the Bunso bag in grey it came out to about ninety one dollars with tax, while the Dagne Dover in large was two hundred thirty one dollars after tax. They do offer a military discount which helps a bit but it is still a big price jump. If you are trying to save money this bag easily wins here. Color variety, not so much, especially since they only stocked around ten of the grey ones and they sold out fast.
SIZE:
The Bunso Baby measurements are listed as 16.06 by 15.51 by 3.82 inches, although I swear that depth feels bigger than that number. The Dagne Dover large is 12.25 by 13.75 by 6 inches. Bunso Baby answered a sizing question and said 13 by 15 by 6 which only adds to the confusion. Either way this bag is definitely larger. It weighs about three pounds while the Dagne Dover weighs six and a half. I personally would never go for the small or medium Dagne Dover so a bigger size is great for me. Size is really a personal preference here so I don’t think either one is the clear winner.
MATERIAL:
The materials are where you see the biggest gap between the two bags. This bag is made from neoprene while the Dagne Dover uses premium neoprene and performance air mesh. This difference shows right away when you open them up. The Bunso bag really does mimic the general look of the Dagne Dover but you can tell that it is a more affordable version. Dagne Dover does a beautiful job color matching everything, inside and out. This one does not. On the sides and straps of the Bunso Baby bag you can see a reflective fabric that the Dagne Dover does not have and the hardware on this bag does not match the body the same way. The texture also feels less soft. Dagne Dover definitely wins in terms of material quality. One thing worth noting though, a lot of people complain about the Dagne Dover smell for the first few weeks and this bag had absolutely no smell at all.
ACCESSORIES:
Both bags come with many of the same extras including a changing pad, stroller straps, a laundry bag, and a small pouch. The main difference here is the design of the stroller straps. This bag comes with two straps that each have metal hooks and can hook together depending on your stroller. Dagne Dover uses plastic clips that attach directly to the stroller. I like the look of their clips better but honestly these metal ones fit more stroller styles so they end up being useful in different ways.
FRIEND REVIEW:
My best friend Karen has been using this same neoprene Bunso Baby bag and she is obsessed with it. She keeps telling me how many pockets it has and how she no longer needs to pack separate little pouches because everything fits neatly inside. She loved the cushioned straps on their older version so she was thrilled that this one has the same comfortable design. She said she can pack it completely full and still carry it all day without worrying about her shoulders. They took it with them on a family trip to an amusement park and she said it actually made the day easier because she did not need a diaper bag, a cooler, and a tote. Just this one bag. She said it hangs well on both a regular stroller and a smaller travel stroller which is a huge help. FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
When I first pulled this diaper bag out of the box I was honestly a little impressed because I had only heard about this brand after having my son who is three now. Even though we are not in full diaper bag mode anymore, I still like having something I can grab when I am running around with a toddler because you just never know what the day will throw at you. The look and feel of this bag makes it seem like something you could keep using even after the diaper bag chapter closes. It has this durable outer material that feels tough enough to handle anything and still wipe clean for the next day.
FIT & COMFORT:
Something I really appreciated as a plus size woman was being able to adjust the strap so it actually felt comfortable. I have tried other high quality brands where the bag itself was nice but I felt silly wearing it. This one has a slim shape but I learned quickly that how you pack matters more than anything. For daily errands it works beautifully. For an overnight trip it might feel a little tight, but I still see it as a great everyday grab and go bag.
TRAVEL FEATURES:

The accessories were not my favorite, but they do tie into the overall look of the bag and I still think it is nice that they included them. Everything feels cohesive with the rest of the design which I appreciate even if the accessories are not the reason I bought the bag.
BAG FEATURES:
This bag has a magnetic closure, four areas where you can stash your essentials, and one side that zips completely down so you can see everything inside without digging. The other side has a separate area for drinks or bottles. On the front you get two pockets, one open and one zippered, and the main compartment has additional places to store things. There is a back pocket lined for your phone and the whole bag has this heavy duty feel that makes me think it will really last.

8. Freshly Picked - Wipeable Vegan Leather
FIVE MONTH CHECK IN:
After about five months of using this bag I can say I have not had quality issues yet, but the overall functionality drives me a little nuts. The outside pockets are so tight that I literally have to force my phone into one. If I put anything inside the pocket right behind them, those outer pockets basically turn useless. It also bothers me that there is no access point from the back that lets you reach the bottom of the bag, so everything ends up being packed in these two tight layers. The bottom layer gets crammed and then I toss the rest on top because there is no way to reach anything easily once it is in there.
STORAGE LIMITATIONS:
As far as storage goes, I really do not like this setup. The vegan leather does not expand at all when the bag gets full, so you can forget about squeezing anything extra in. The back of the bag pulls together into this pyramid shape at the top, which means you lose a chunk of space. The flap only makes it more frustrating since it mostly gets in the way. You also need two hands to zip the bag closed, which I always notice in the most inconvenient moments. The front pocket does not help much either since it has no stretch.
CHANGING PAD ISSUES:
The changing pad could have been great, but it has no waterproof side. Anything that gets on it stains immediately and you have to scrub it to get it clean again. I expected something a little easier to maintain.
FRIEND HEATHER’S NOTES:
My friend from book club, Heather, had a totally different experience. She thinks it is a great diaper bag because it holds a ton and the inside pockets make everything easy to find. She feels the weight is normal for a leather style bag and she actually likes the look enough that she would have used it even before having kids. Her husband is also fine carrying it.
