I ranked the best vitamin C serums based on my personal experience and what friends, family, and even my esthetician had to say. Here's what you need to know.

Note: Prices were correct at the time of writing.
1. Obagi Medical - Ideal for Sensitive Skin

Let me just say, I never thought my skin could look this good at 60. I got a late start with all the fancy serums, and sometimes I wish I’d started earlier, but honestly, I’ve done my best to take care of my skin along the way. I’m that person who’s always used good sunscreen and moisturizer, year after year, for almost four decades. I’ve had Tretinoin in my routine for about 10 years too. Even so, this vitamin C serum from Obagi has made a clear difference. I didn’t expect to see such a boost in brightness and that extra youthful look, but here we are.
I first picked up Obagi’s serum because I already love their moisturizer. I tend to go a little overboard on research before buying skincare. I read all kinds of expert opinions, and some dermatologists out there say vitamin C serums can’t really change your skin. After everything I’ve seen, on my own skin and from reading what other people have shared, I have to disagree. Thousands of people have reported seeing real improvements, and I’m now one of them. My complexion looks noticeably better, and I just feel more confident without makeup.
If you have sensitive skin, you’ll want to start slow. I went a bit heavy with the serum at first, even following the recommended drops, and it ended up settling in the lines around my mouth and at the corners of my eyes, causing some dry patches. What works for me now is two drops on my forehead and between my brows, one on each cheek and around my nose, and then I use whatever’s left on my fingers to gently pat over the rest of my face. I stick to using the serum every morning, under my moisturizer and makeup, then Tretinoin at night, always after washing up and waiting about 20 or 25 minutes before applying it. Ever since I got the hang of this routine, I haven’t had a single problem, just a healthy, radiant glow.
KELLY’S TAKE:
My friend Kelly from book club is also a fan. She’s tried a few other Obagi products, so she knows her way around the brand, and she’s always said they’re on the pricier side but worth it. She told me she likes how this serum smells and the slick texture, though she laughed about how easy it is to get the liquid on the outside of the bottle if you’re not careful with the dropper. Kelly uses it on her face, neck, and chest, and she started noticing a real difference in her skin, especially with the deep lines above her lips that always bothered her. She likes how it leaves her skin soft and ready for moisturizer, and she mentioned her skin feels a little extra smooth and primed for makeup. For her, it’s become a staple both day and night, and she’s already planning to buy another bottle when this one’s empty. She also appreciated that the bottle comes with a handy booklet explaining the different formulas and instructions, so there’s nothing confusing about getting started.
ANN’S STORY:
Then there’s my sister Ann, who has the kind of fair, sensitive skin that reacts to just about everything. She’s spent most of her life outside, working, hiking, you name it, so her skin really shows it. She started using the serum after her dermatologist recommended vitamin C to help with brown spots and hydration. Usually, nothing ever seems to actually sink in for her, and a lot of things trigger her eczema or cause breakouts. Not this time. Ann said she was honestly surprised at how well her skin responded, no irritation, just softer, healthier-looking skin all around. She told me she’s seeing her skin improve every week, and she’s even been recommending this to her friends. The price is definitely up there, but Ann noticed that a little goes a long way. One bottle is lasting her for months, so she feels like it’s totally worth the investment. – Sophia Turner

2. Kiehl's - 12.5% Vitamin C Serum

I’ve always been that person who can’t help but try something new when it comes to skincare. If there’s a holy grail serum out there, you can bet I want to find it. Over the last ten years, I’ve cycled through all kinds of products, from the high-end ones like Sunday Riley and Dr. Dennis Gross to some surprising budget finds from Amazon. No matter what I try, I always end up coming back to one favorite, Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength 12.5 percent Vitamin C Serum.
It’s pretty common advice that you should switch up your skincare every few months so your skin doesn’t get too used to one formula. That’s probably why I’ve experimented with everything under the sun. I even gave the Brandefy serum a shot, and it actually worked great at first, but by the second bottle, it just didn’t have the same magic. Then I tried La Roche-Posay, which seemed really promising, but it started to oxidize way too quickly and lost its punch.
Kiehl’s stands out for me for a bunch of reasons. The texture is silky and honestly feels amazing to put on. It’s got one of the highest levels of L-ascorbic acid I’ve found, 12.5 percent, which is no joke. This form of vitamin C is considered the gold standard for a reason. My skin actually responds to it. After regular use, I can see sun spots fading, and those fine lines that tend to creep up around my eyes and neck look softer. The results are real. After all these years, this serum is still the one I trust most and the one I keep buying. I feel like if you really want to invest in your skin, you can’t go wrong here.
WHAT SARAH THINKS:
I’m not the only one who’s into this serum. My neighbor, Sarah Keane, is a stickler for ingredients and knows exactly what she’s putting on her face. She said right away she noticed some tightening, and within a couple days, those little smile lines at the sides of her mouth looked less noticeable. She has her own little skincare routine, sometimes making cocktails of different products, but she also likes just keeping it simple and layering this serum right after washing and toning, then following up with moisturizer. Sarah told me it’s not easy to earn her trust, but she’s genuinely happy with this one, especially since the ingredients are clean and the results are there. She gives it a solid five stars.
WHAT DIANE FROM BOOK CLUB SAYS:
Another friend, Diane, started seeing results after just six days. She goes light with it, morning and night under her moisturizer, and lets it dry before applying anything else. She mentioned feeling a little bit of heat and a kind of prescription-like smell at first, along with a slight tightness, but it faded after a few minutes. The best part is, she’s thrilled with how her skin is looking.
WHAT LAYNEE HAS NOTICED:
Laynee McNeil, also from my book club, has a slightly different take. She isn’t ready to give a full review on long-term results yet, but she’s already a fan of how this serum feels. For her, it goes on like velvet and leaves her skin really soft, not sticky or tight at all. It soaks in fast, so she’s able to layer on her next product without waiting around.
Laynee did mention that some folks complain about the dropper and bottle, but she figured out that as long as you let the serum drip back down before putting the dropper in, you’ll avoid any messy overflow. She had no trouble at all, and once the bottle gets low, it’s even easier. As far as packaging goes, Laynee is completely satisfied. – Isabella Hughes

3. Dermalogica - Biolumin-C Serum

I started using this serum on my surgery scars. Last year, I had surgery on my scalp, and while the procedure itself went fine, the aftercare I got was pretty terrible. The scars I ended up with were honestly hard to look at, lobster red and just so obvious. My primary care doctor suggested I try vitamin C serum to help with the redness and healing, since it can boost collagen too. I can really say my skin tone has gotten so much better. Thanks to this serum, you’d really have to know exactly where to look to spot my scalp scars now, instead of them being visible from across the room.
I was so happy with the results, I didn’t even think twice about picking up another bottle for my hysterectomy scars, as soon as it was safe to start using it. Just a quick tip, don’t put it on broken skin. I’ve noticed that scars on the scalp heal faster because of the strong blood supply, but the color correction on my hysterectomy scars is taking a little longer, which I kind of expected. Honestly, I don’t know why it took me so long to give vitamin C a try. I’ve also got a bright red scar on my wrist from a benign growth removal, and even though that one is still the darkest, it’s the best it’s looked in years. It even seems like the scar is flatter now, though I can’t say for sure if that’s from the serum or just coincidence. I also use it when I get acne flare-ups, and it helps take down the redness. I’m seriously happy with how it’s worked for every single use.
MY SEARCH FOR A SERUM:
The first time I bought this, I’d been pretty frustrated. Every high percentage vitamin C serum I tried before was either sticky, thick, or dried with that weird egg white film that just sat on my skin and never really absorbed. Dermalogica’s serum kept popping up in my Amazon suggestions, but it looked pricey, so I held off for a couple months, trying out cheaper, and honestly, pretty disappointing options. I finally gave in, and right away realized this is just the kind of price you can expect to pay for real quality. When you look at what’s inside, I think it’s actually a fair price for what you’re getting.
INGREDIENTS AND TEXTURE:
You can absolutely find vitamin C serums for less, but you get what you pay for. The cheap ones are gooey and never seem to soak in, the amount of vitamin C is either not listed or just way too low, and the ingredient lists are needlessly long and full of filler. Dermalogica keeps things simple and focused, with strong levels of the ingredients that actually matter, all of them backed up by research. For those who talk about tackiness, I just want to say, this is vitamin C, a little tackiness is totally normal. The trick is to use just a small amount, let it sit for a minute after patting it in, and then go in with your favorite moisturizer. That mild sticky feeling goes away completely once you put moisturizer on top. I actually find it helps boost the hydration of my moisturizer.
PACKAGING AND APPLICATOR:
I honestly can’t relate to people who complain about the applicator. The base screws on tight and makes it really easy to control how much you use. There’s a tiny cap on the tip that never leaks. Application is simple and clean.
BECCA’S TAKE:
My cousin Becca out in Philly uses this same serum. She likes pairing it with her favorite vitamin C face cream, and she said the only thing she doesn’t love is the price, otherwise, she’d use it all the time. She goes through serums pretty quickly, so the small bottle doesn’t last long for her, but she says it works really well, especially since her skin is sensitive. For her, it’s a great product, just one she wishes cost a little less. If you can fit it in your budget, she’d definitely recommend it.
GARY’S EXPERIENCE:
My neighbor Gary wanted to share a few words too. His wife is really into skincare and wanted to see if this would make a difference for her. Gary mentioned that even though he got the product for free, he does pay taxes on the full value, so his review is totally honest. His wife likes how well the serum absorbs and how good her skin looks after using it, so she’s totally pleased with the product itself. The only real drawback for her is the price, ten milliliters costs thirty-nine dollars, which is definitely more than some of the other serums she’s used that she also liked. In the end, it really comes down to whether you think it’s worth it. – Mia Reynolds

4. Sunday Riley - C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum

Let me just say, I’m 37 and I’ve been trying to figure out how to deal with dark spots and damage in my skin for ages. This product has been such a game-changer for me. The smell is just like fresh oranges, it feels amazing on my face, and I wake up looking better every single morning. It truly brightens up my skin, and the dark pigmentation on my face is noticeably lighter. I even noticed my under eye puffiness looks better and is much less noticeable.
I’ve only been using this serum for two weeks, pairing it with my moisturizer and Good Genes, plus I like adding the Pink Drink to my routine every now and then. But honestly, the vitamin C serum and the turmeric one are my absolute favorites from this line. They really do work. I wish I’d taken a before picture because after two weeks, I’m just glowing. I swear, it feels like I’ve turned the clock back two years. My skin just looks fresher and more alive than it has in a long time.
MY SISTER’S THOUGHTS:
My sister has actually been using this serum for about two years now. She says one bottle will last at least six months if you stick to just one pump for your face. It sinks in so nicely, leaving her skin dewy and hydrated. It plays well with all her other products too, never pills or separates. She likes to use it as her first step in the morning before moisturizer and sunscreen, and she never has trouble with layering. Her skin is very fair with a yellow undertone, and she used to have some pretty red acne scars. This serum has faded those scars a ton, and her skin tone looks much more even. She likes that the vitamin C isn’t so strong that it’s harsh, but it’s still potent enough to see real changes. She thinks it’s totally worth the price and has stuck with it until she finds something even better, which might never happen.
RITA’S ROUTINE:
Rita from my book club says this night serum is hands down the gentlest one she’s ever used. She started using it a couple years ago after switching from something similar that was just way too irritating. Rita was careful at first, trying to help her post-acne, middle-aged skin that has some pitting. She started slow, just three nights a week, always following up with moisturizer. She washes it off in the morning with cold water and no soap. After a few weeks, she started using it more often. Now she goes with a gentle cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer. Rita says when she wakes up, her skin looks like it just drank a bunch of water, it’s so smooth. The pitting hasn’t gone away, but her skin is definitely better with a consistent routine, and this serum has made a big difference. Sometimes she even uses it without moisturizer since it’s so lightweight and gentle, and she loves the light, pleasant scent. Rita feels like the price is right, and she doesn’t have to worry about breaking the bank for healthy skin. Bliss is her favorite skincare brand so far, especially for sensitive skin that still needs a gentle exfoliation.
MIRA’S TAKE:
Mira, another friend from book club, can’t stop raving about the vitamin C serum in the orange bottle. She’s 48 and has always used sunscreen, but years spent as a flower farmer mean she still deals with lines, sunspots, redness, and blotchiness, even with sun protection. She’s never really felt comfortable leaving the house without some kind of foundation to even things out. After using this serum twice a day for three months, along with Neutrogena sunscreen and retinol at night, Mira feels confident going out without makeup for the first time in years. She actually gets compliments about her skin now, which she never expected. It’s made her feel so much better about herself. She says the serum absorbs super fast, isn’t sticky, smells refreshing but doesn’t linger, and layers easily under sunscreen and everything else. The only thing she would change is the dispenser tube inside the bottle, because it’s a little too short and there’s always some product left that’s tough to get out. – Abigail Foster

5. Caudalie - 62x More Effective

I’ve been using the Caudalie Vinoperfect serum for about a month now, and honestly, I can see why so many people rave about it. After just a week, I noticed my face, neck, and chest were much smoother and softer. My skin just seemed to love this serum from day one. But by the second week, I actually started noticing more dark spots and hyperpigmentation showing up. I got pretty skeptical and almost gave up. It felt like every old blemish was being dragged to the surface. I decided to keep going, and I’m glad I did. By week three, the spots began fading, and now at week four, they’re definitely lighter. My complexion is more even and I don’t need to wear foundation anymore. Fewer bumps, fewer blackheads, and my skin even has this subtle glow.
I only use the Caudalie serum at night, then I use a different illuminating and hydrating serum in the morning. I’ve read some reviews where people said this product gave them acne, but I have rosacea and super sensitive skin and it hasn’t caused me any issues at all, even with the light aloe scent. My skin is drier now that I’m in my 40s, so I can see how someone with acne-prone or super oily skin might have a different experience. The price is higher than I’d like to pay at eighty-five dollars a bottle, but the results are honestly worth it.
ELENA’S TAKE:
My friend Elena from book club has been using this serum for a few years. She usually gets hers at Sephora but decided to try ordering on Amazon for convenience and better price, and she was relieved to find it was the same quality. For her, this serum is gently moisturizing. She uses it as her first layer after washing her face, then follows with eye cream and moisturizer. Elena has acne-prone skin, and not only has this serum never broken her out, she actually has fewer breakouts when using it. She’s pregnant now and noticed a bit of pregnancy mask (that darker skin that shows up around the eyes and mouth), but she started using the serum religiously and the mask lightened and is now totally gone. She says her skin is still healthy and basically wrinkle-free, even if she can’t swear the serum is the only reason why.
GINA’S FEEDBACK:
Gina from book club is in her late 40s and always felt good about her skin thanks to years of good products. Now with some menopausal changes, she’s had to deal with dry skin, breakouts, and some brown spots from sun exposure, which is all new territory for her. She was pretty cautious about spending so much for a serum but hoped for the best. Gina says she’s genuinely impressed with the tone, clarity, and brightness of her skin, and she’s only been using it for a few weeks. Even stubborn brown spots on her cheek and forehead are fading. The serum has a slightly milky texture and a scent that reminds her of fresh cucumber. Gina uses her retinol pads, then this serum, and then Jan Marini’s bioclear moisturizer. She says her skin has never looked better, and even estheticians at high-end spas have complimented her complexion. She still saves her Caudalie for special days and swaps in a less expensive serum sometimes, but she loves knowing she can still get truly beautiful skin at any age.
OUR YOUNGEST BOOK CLUB MEMBER:
Our youngest book club member is just 22 and has been dealing with combination and acne-prone skin since fifth grade. She struggled with severe acne all through high school, even had to get prescriptions, and still gets breakouts and leftover dark marks. She’s always tried to hide it with foundation and powder, even though she knows it doesn’t really help. About a month ago she started using this serum morning and night, and she’s also stopped using face makeup.
Her constant redness has gone away, and about half her dark spots are either faded or gone completely. She’s thrilled with the change, especially since her boyfriend started noticing how healthy her skin looked without even knowing she was trying something new. The serum smells great, feels super light, and isn’t sticky at all. She says her skin quality is so much better and is already planning to post before and after photos when she finishes the bottle. – Charlotte Simmons

6. Jan Marini - Skin Research C-ESTA Serum

I’ve been using this serum for just about a week, and I have to say, I’m noticing changes already. Right off the bat, I did get a few small bumps, probably my skin detoxing, which honestly made me feel like the product was really working. On day one, I just loved how it felt. I recently turned 42, and there are things about my skin now that I never noticed before, and honestly, sometimes it feels like things change overnight. Being in the beauty industry, I’ve tried so many products over the years, and what used to work wonders doesn’t cut it anymore.
Moisturizing is key after applying this serum, especially if you’re in your forties, and I always reach for a deeper moisturizer now, depending on what my skin needs. The first thing that grabbed me was the texture, how fast it soaks in, and the light fragrance, which actually makes me want to use it more. Like I said, those bumps just convinced me it was doing its job.
Even though it’s only been a week, I’ve already noticed my pores look much smaller, and my skin texture is way smoother. I’m seeing more clarity, a more even tone, and the discoloration that’s been around my chin and the sides of my face since my twenties is basically gone. The yellowing around my mouth faded out too, which is huge for me. There was a dark spot, not major but definitely visible, that has faded a lot, and even the faint line below my chin that’s been there since my late twenties is gone. That’s honestly a big deal, because nothing else ever really made that line disappear for more than a day or two. The lines and puffiness that showed up after my last birthday are also much less noticeable. I still have some fine lines on my forehead, but I don’t use Botox or fillers, so I’m just happy with the improvements so far and hopeful that even those lines will keep fading.
One thing to mention, this serum does lighten your skin, so if that’s not what you want, you’ll want to keep that in mind. The only thing I’d improve is switching to a pump bottle, so the product wouldn’t oxidize each time you open it.
MERRISA’S STORY:
My friend Merrisa from book club is actually the reason I tried this serum. For her, it’s a true holy grail product. She’s about to order her third bottle and still can’t believe how quickly it worked the first time she used it. Merrisa developed really sensitive skin in her thirties, and the last couple of years were extra tough. She was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, and after a round of expensive treatments that stopped working after a few days, her skin got more congested, with huge pores and stubborn brown and orange-red patches. She tried everything, from doctors to holistic remedies, but nothing worked. At one point, all she wanted was enough improvement to cover the flakes and redness with makeup, but even that seemed impossible. After doing a lot of research, she realized her skin barrier just couldn’t recover, and all the congestion was feeding the seb derm and keeping her stuck in a bad cycle. She gave this serum a try, and the result was immediate. The redness calmed right down, the flakes disappeared, and her skin felt softer than it had in ages. Even her fine lines looked better. She was skeptical at first because doctor-prescribed treatments would work briefly then fail, but after a month, she was convinced. She says the change was like night and day.
PAULA’S EXPERIENCE:
My best friend Paula, who’s 35, has been seeing an esthetician for years who carries Jan Marini’s line. Paula gets this C-Esta Serum during her monthly facials and always notices how it brightens and smooths her complexion, giving her skin that dewy, even, radiant look. Buying a bottle for home was a splurge, usually around a hundred dollars, but she scored a good deal during a Black Friday sale on Amazon and says the product was exactly the same as what she gets from the spa. Paula loves how the serum lifts and tightens, and she always notices her pores look smaller a few minutes after putting it on. The pump dispenser works well, and one bottle lasts for months. It’s got a watery consistency and smells like flowers mixed with tropical fruit, which she loves. She’s happy any time she can get it at a discount. – Amelia Peterson

7. IMAGE Skincare - VITAL C Hydrating Serum

I’ve always been a fan of vitamin C products for my face, but this one really became my new favorite right away. I started with the serum in the travel size, just to see if I’d like it, and honestly, it’s wonderful. Now I keep both the travel size and the full size at home because I don’t want to mess up my routine when I’m traveling. I love that this brand gives you both options.
The serum itself is just fabulous, creamy but not sticky, and it actually makes my skin look better, even though it’s sometimes hard to know what’s causing the change with so many products. My favorite thing is the scent, which is like fresh oranges, but never overpowering. I’ve given up on plenty of other serums because they smelled weird or too perfumey, so I’m picky about that. I also picked up the travel size cleanser in this line and I love it too, so I’ll be getting the regular size soon for home.
Sure, it’s on the expensive side, but when you compare the cost to similar products, especially when you look at the weight, it’s really about average. Some others are even pricier per ounce. For example, I tried a one ounce bottle of C-Luma from Drunk Elephant for sixty eight dollars, but the Image serum at one point seven ounces works out to about forty five dollars an ounce if you buy it once, and less if you subscribe. Honestly, all these high end skincare lines are pricey, no wonder the folks making these products are living in giant houses and flying private.
ANN’S ROUTINE:
My sister Ann is just as enthusiastic about this serum. It’s become a staple in her routine and for good reason. After just a few uses, her skin felt softer and looked a lot brighter. She says the serum hydrates really well without feeling greasy or heavy. She’s also a huge fan of the citrus scent. Ann feels this serum is a total game changer for her, leaving her skin nourished, rejuvenated, and radiant. She even got her husband using it, and they both love it. Ann says it’s one of those rare products she can recommend to anyone looking to give their skin a real boost.
NANCY’S EXPERIENCE:
Nancy from my book club has been using this serum for over two years and says it never makes her break out. It’s super lightweight, keeps her face moisturized, and helps it look smooth and youthful. Her beautician recommended the serum along with Image sunscreen, and she uses both every day to fight sun and environmental damage. Nancy’s in her early thirties and feels it’s the right time for prevention. She also mentioned that this serum was said to have some of the highest vitamin D on the market a couple years ago. She’s tried other serums, mostly from Sephora, but those tended to be oily and caused breakouts. Not this one. Now, it’s an essential part of her daily routine, and she never travels without it.
LISA’S EXPERIENCE:
Lisa, another friend from book club, really loves this serum too. The scent reminds her of freshly cut oranges. It isn’t strong and fades quickly, but she likes it. Lisa says it’s her favorite product in the set. It glides on easily and absorbs fast, but she did notice a little sting if she uses it right after exfoliating. She thinks the face wash is pretty basic, it cleans well and rinses off easily, but she wouldn’t buy it again, since she’s tried better. The moisturizer in the set smells great and is on the thinner side, but she can’t rely on it alone when the weather is really dry or windy. Lisa feels the set is nice for helping with dull skin, but she didn’t see a big change with fine lines or dark spots. Even so, she’d buy the serum again, even though it’s pricey, especially for anyone dealing with dryness or dull patches.
JANE’S EXPERIENCE:
Jane Dyer, also from our group, is a big fan of the orange smell and the light texture of the serum. She doesn’t expect a serum to be a total moisturizer, so she always follows it up with something richer. Jane likes how the dispenser works, giving her just the right amount, and she gets every last drop by adding a bit of water at the end. She doesn’t think it’s a miracle worker for wrinkles or plumping, but honestly, she hasn’t found any product that does that. Her only complaint is the price, though she recently got a better deal through Amazon.
CYNTHIA’S ROUTINE:
Cynthia really appreciates the trial sets since they let you try the bestsellers in the line, but she wishes the sample sizes were a bit bigger so you could really tell how well things work. She thinks the serum is the real star, especially for helping even out skin tone. Cynthia feels the face wash doesn’t do much because it’s only on your skin for a second, so it’s not where she’d put her money. She thinks the serum and cream are what make the line worth it, and she’d rather buy the full size versions than keep getting little kits. – Ella Richardson

8. Vibriance - Mature Skin Super C Serum

I had read some reviews saying that the product did not really fill up the entire container, but honestly, I was not that surprised. What did surprise me was just how little actual serum there was inside. When the pump stopped working, I took the top off, thinking maybe I could get a bit more out, and what I found was pretty wild. Nearly two thirds of the container was just empty space, nothing but packaging. The actual product only filled up about half an inch at the bottom. I get it when companies use small bottles and you know what you have, but here, you just get a "weight," and there is no way to really see how much one ounce is, how long it will last, or how far it will go. To me, this is just a marketing trick I see a lot with skincare and makeup, but out of all the cosmetic products I have tried over the years, this one was the worst for hiding how little product you actually get.
The scent is great, really nice citrus, and maybe my skin felt a little smoother. But honestly, I do not feel like it delivered on what it promises. If you look at how much you actually get compared to something like a jar of cream, you are probably paying way more for this stuff. That citrus scent can be found in other products for a lot less. I will not be buying this again. I even tried to upload a picture to show what I found, but could not get it to work. Maybe I will add it if I can later.
UPDATE 1:
I still feel this is expensive for the amount you get and for how fast it runs out, but I will admit that sometimes it just takes longer to see results. I am on my second month now, and I do feel like my skin is softer. I am mainly working on the lines around my mouth and marionette lines, and as most of us know, these are deep wrinkles, not just little fine lines. I will keep using it for another month and see what happens.
UPDATE 2:
Almost forgot to update, but here it is. At this point, I am starting to think these lines are here to stay. I am disappointed by how the ads for this serum showed models’ deep wrinkles vanishing, which just does not happen. That is just not realistic, no cream is going to erase what time and the environment have done. Still, I left my review at a "4" because my skin is definitely softer, and if nothing else, this product reminded me that getting older is not something to dread. I might have more lines than I used to, but they are earned. I am wiser and stronger now, and honestly, that is not such a bad thing to see when I look in the mirror.
GINA’S STORY:
My friend Gina Britton had a similar experience with the serum. She liked how it went on silky smooth, dried quickly, and did not feel sticky. Up until her latest bottle, she would have given it five stars. But after her fourth order, she suddenly had a bad reaction, rash, itching, burning, which had never happened before, and she had not changed anything else in her routine. She is not sure if it was a bad batch, if the product was compromised, or if the company changed the formula. Now she is not sure she would recommend it and is contacting customer service since she cannot return it.
ABBY’S TAKE:
Abby Drew from my book club has years of experience working for prestige cosmetic companies, and she knows her ingredients. She pointed out that there are really two kinds of vitamin C serums, one can boost radiance and smoothness, but many are acidic and can cause irritation. She thought this serum seemed like the radiance boosting kind, and when she tried it, she got the orangey scent and a nice smoothing effect at first. Not long after, she started dealing with redness, itchiness, inflammation, and peeling. At first she thought it was winter dryness or even the flu, so she went back to her old products and forgot about the serum. When she saw an ad for it promising miracle wrinkle results, she found the bottle in her cabinet and tried it again. Within two days, the same irritation and peeling came back, and now she knows it was the serum. Abby says it is not just a sensitive skin issue, but the acidic ingredients themselves.
Most people probably do not even realize what is causing the irritation, since the serum feels soothing when you first put it on. In her opinion, other than light exfoliation, this serum is not going to do much for wrinkles, and it could leave you with red, patchy skin. Abby also agrees the pump is deceiving, there is way less product inside than it looks. – Zoey Bryant
