I’m a medical student, and a while back I was diagnosed with scoliosis. That moment pushed me to start thinking more deeply about movement and posture. I had this feeling that a lot of my back discomfort was musculoskeletal, not something structural. So I started reading about natural foot health, and that’s what led me to barefoot shoes. Within just a few weeks of switching, my lower back pain faded away, and I haven’t looked back since.
I wear these whenever I need closed shoes and can’t use my Earth Runners. They’ve become my everyday pair. STYLE:
When I first looked into barefoot running, I wanted something simple that didn’t scream “gym shoe.” I needed a pair that looked normal enough to wear year-round. These turned out to be perfect. Mostly black, minimal, clean lines. They just blend in. I ended up wearing them nearly every day without even realizing it.
RUNNING AND COMFORT:
It took a little time to learn how to move differently, since barefoot shoes make you run in a whole new way. Once I figured that out, I started preferring these over my HOKAs, which used to be my go-to. The change was amazing. No more shin splints, no more knee pain, no random aches. It’s like my body finally learned how to move naturally again. If you’re thinking of trying barefoot running, I’d say start slow and do a bit of research first. Your feet and legs need time to adjust, but once they do, it feels lighter, more balanced, almost freeing.
GYM USE:
These shoes are perfect for the gym. I can lift, squat, and jump on the treadmill without changing shoes. The flat, flexible sole gives great grip and ground feel. If you’re used to lifting in flat shoes like Chucks, you’ll instantly get why people love these. It’s as close as you can get to barefoot training while still wearing shoes.
DURABILITY:
To be honest, I didn’t expect them to last this long. The only issue I ran into was my big toe eventually pressing through the upper, which I fixed with a quick stitch job and black thread. That’s something that happens with almost every pair I own, so I wasn’t surprised. My old Vans usually fall apart after three months, but these have gone the distance. The soles, though, have been incredible. After all the miles and daily wear, they’re just a little worn, nothing serious. For something so light and flexible, they’ve held up way better than I thought they would.
FIT AND FEEL:
Sizing can get tricky since Vivo doesn’t do half sizes, and each model fits a bit differently. I ordered the same size I wear in Adidas Stan Smiths. At first, I thought they ran long, but once I walked around a bit, I realized the fit was spot on. My foot doesn’t slide, and the shape feels natural once it molds to your stride. And the feeling - honestly - it’s wild. You sense every little crack in the sidewalk, every dip in the ground. Your feet flex and wrap around whatever you’re walking on, giving this steady, pleasant pressure under your soles. When I get home and take them off, it actually feels like I’ve had a foot massage. I even look for excuses to go for walks. The first time I switched back to a cushioned shoe, it felt dull, like someone had turned off part of my senses. It’s strange how many nerve endings we have in our feet that we never really use. Once you feel that connection, you can’t unknow it.
OVERALL:
Barefoot shoes aren’t for everyone, though. If you have knee or foot issues, it’s worth checking with a doctor before trying them. For me, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made. My posture’s better, my stride feels natural, and I finally understand what healthy movement actually feels like.
